クエスト・ラヴに感化されたので、ドラムの話。
「ドラマーがいいバンドは、いいバンド」というのがありますが、ザ・ルーツは、まさにそれを証明する典型的なドラムス主導のバンドです。
ドラムの音色で、音楽の価値 かなり決まりますね。
そして超人ドラマーは多くても、超人中の超人、他に並ぶ者がいないのが、1番すごいと思うドラマー、バディ・リッチです。アメリカではビッグバンドジャズの新境地を開いた人物として多くのファンから尊敬されています。

バディ・リッチの場合、１曲通して速いなんてことは日常茶飯事で、それが何曲も続いたステージの最後に延々とドラムソロをやり、さらにその最後に、極めつけの大パワー＆超スピードのシングルストロークを炸裂させ、その後も曲に戻って叩きまくるなどということを、69歳の晩年までやっていたのです。音だけでなく、映像を見てこそ、バディ・リッチの本当のスゴサが分かります。

I had a late night supper with Taku from NHK, a really incredible Japanese fine director. Some plans are in the works and it was a good time to catch up on things in person. As I alway say, its incredible how much more productive you can be doing things in person rather than email. Its like in 1 dinner, you can cover a month's worth of emails...
木曜日はウッチーと飲みました。相変わらずのたわいもない話です。でもこれ大事です。しかし久しぶりに行きましたが、VAPEUR ヴァプール、やっぱりいいですね。
ジャンルにとらわれず、それでいて統一感のあるメニュー。レベルはどれも高く、おいしいです。スタンディングの方で軽くや飲むもいいし、カウンター席でゆっくり飲むもいいですし。いろんな使い方ができる、便利な一軒です。おすすめです。

鶯谷園へ。
In JPN, its all about the food! For some reason, you have to eat till you're about to explode. No ifs, ands or buts about it.
内装は普通だし、ともすると 客席は焼肉屋というより 大衆食堂的です。
Highly recommended if you're a fan of the Yakiniku. This was the crowd gathered outside...
相変わらずすごい人気です。これが外の行列。
These are beauties.
焼肉はコスパです。
This was the view from the other side of the table. Osamu was manning the grills.
Life is all about treating yourself to some simple pleasures. It’s the little things that matter.
I absolutely say this without a grain of exaggeration that this was BY FAR, the best beef I have ever had in my entire life including every country I have ever traveled to. Words that come to mind are: Cosmic. Mind boggling. Banoodles. Numbing. Ludicrous. Yeah, that good. I will go back to Uguisudani often just for this place.
How fresh is the beef?
If you’re interested in knowing, this translates to about 4 additional pounds on the scale.
We made it thru the dinner. Thanks for the good times.

The winter of music continues...
六本木三ツ星酒場 朝日食堂へ。この辺では安くて美味しいと評判の居酒屋です。
〆鯖を目の前でガスバーナーで豪快に炙ります。演出的にもありですね。
Your typical delicious fresh sashmini.
単品の定番メニューから、ハマチ刺し。
六本木のわりにとにかく値段が安いです。たくさん飲んで食べてこの値段なら大満足。
Great dinner (like my Flintstone-sized piece of chicken?) and great company. Girls had me thoroughly entertained the entire night.
何より素晴しいのが、あれだけの注文をわずか三人で、しかも遅れることなく確実に、さらに常に落ち着いて振舞われているオペレーションには驚かされました。サービス精神旺盛で明るく楽しい店。
機会があれば、是非また来たいですね。
The Roots did it again.
I managed to catch the recent The Roots gig at Billboard Live in Roppongi. I’ve been a fan of The Roots since day one and it’s the first time I’ve seen a live set in years. Seemed like the guys were having fun and unlike so many other people making Hip Hop over the longer haul, The Roots still make great records. they haven’t passed their “sell by date”.

I was lucky enough to gather up some friends for The Roots’ back-to-back performances at Billboard Live Tokyo. Bollboard Live is an incredible venue to watch live music. It’s intimate. Easy to get to. Great views of downtown.
改めて書くまでもありませんが、昔からライブに定評のあるフィリーの生演奏型ヒップホップ・バンド。毎年観てて、実際必ず大きな満足感を得ています。
とにかくかくにも引き締まりまくってます。ユルさのカケラもない。
ロック・ネタも盛り込んだり、ギターが2階席に行って弾き歩きしたりのあれこれもあるが、どれも演出めいたところがまったくなく、基本フリーキー。それになんといっても曲間がないまま息つく暇を与えず展開していくあのやり方がやはりたまりません。
“Constant elevation. Constant adaption. Constant state of moving nowhere.”
「絶えない向上。絶えない適応。絶えずどこへにも動かない状況。」
ルーツ、最強。
最終日の最後の公演だったせいか超盛り上がりました。気づいたら会場内ほぼスタンディングしてました。とても珍しいことです。ビルボードがあんなにスタンディング状態になることは他のアーティストでは滅多にありません!
I find it difficult in my mid thirty age bracket to attend live hip-hop show now. There are exceptions.
クエストラブのドラムスティックをゲット！というより拾った!?
クエストラヴのドラミングはひたすらリズム。このリズムがカッコイイし、叩いているルックスもカッコイイんです。
アルバムの曲もとてもいいですが、ほんとライブでしか味わえない魅力がThe Rootsの醍醐味です。ライブを見ればそのすごさは分かる。
Perfection.
Their live performances are a moving experience.Really a “rockin’ good time” type concert. All in all this was an amazing 1 hour and half show. Worth every single penny.
